Safety and Security in the Oregon Trail School District

Posted Date: 1/11/25 (9:09 PM)

As schools have returned from the holiday break, now is a good opportunity to review the Oregon Trail School District's safety and security measures. The district maintains a comprehensive all-hazards Emergency Operations Plan in collaboration with local police and fire agencies and emergency response training is an ongoing process across the district.
Other steps the district has taken include:

  • Schools routinely have safety drills, including for fires and earthquakes (see photo above).
  • The district utilizes Speak Up For Safety, a tip line that allows students to easy and confidentially report threats and other imminent concerns via email or text.
  • Students and staff receive training in Run, Hide, Fight to learn to take action when there is a threat to safety at their school. Parents can learn more about talking to their students about Run, Hide, Fight.
  • "Say Something" teaches students and teachers to look for warning signs, act immediately and say something to a trusted adult.
  • All visitors must enter through their school's main entrance vestibule and be cleared by staff before entering the school.
And please note, all exterior doors at ALL schools in the district remain locked through the day.
