Stay Cool in Extreme Heat this Summer

Posted Date: 7/12/25 (11:07 PM)

Temperatures are expected to rise in the coming days, with an Extreme Heat Watch in effect by the National Weather Service starting on Tuesday afternoon and lasting until Wednesday evening.
Please remember to drink plenty of fluids, stay in a cool place during the heat of the day, stay out of the sunshine and check up on relatives and neighbors. For those without air conditioning, use fans to keep air moving. Keeps windows closed during the day and open at night, unless air quality is degraded due to wildfire smoke.
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
PGE offered a few more tips on ways to keep your home cool during hot weather:
  • Run appliances such as ovens, stovetops, dishwashers and clothes dryers at night or in the early morning.
  • Close curtains on sun-facing windows or use awnings during the day and when running AC units.

Meanwhile, Clackamas County identified cooling centers throughout the county for people to visit when temperatures are dangerously warm. Residents who do not have access to cool places are encouraged to visit a center to avoid the heat and relax.
Centers in the Oregon Trail School District include: Ant Farm Café (39140 Proctor Blvd. in Sandy), the Hoodland Public Library (24525 E. Welches Road in Welches) and the Sandy Public Library (38980 Proctor Blvd. in Sandy). For more information, visit the Clackamas County Cooling Centers website.
