OTSD Special Olympics Unified Track Meet

A light drizzle of rain didn't dampen the spirits of dozens of student athletes from throughout the Oregon Trail School District during the third annual Special Olympics Unified Track Meet on Friday, June 5 at the Sandy High School football stadium. Students from Kelso Elementary, Naas Elementary, Firwood Elementary, Cedar Ridge Middle School and Sandy High School spent the morning taking part in a number of events, including long jump, shot put, hurdles and runs of varying lengths.
The event brought out scores of family and friends to cheer from the stands, with more support offered on the field by the high school football team, cheerleaders, leadership students and a buddy for each student athlete from their school to help with events. The Sandy High School Pionaires sang the national anthem to start the meet, members of the Sandy Police Department awarded medals and firefighters from the Clackamas Fire District were also on hand.
